• For rats, cockroaches, and ants, eliminating food sources is crucial. Keep appliances and utensils clean; clean up spilt food after eating; use sealed glass or plastic containers to store food; and dispose of trash in sealed garbage bags.
• Limiting access for pests inside. Make sure that screens, doors, and windows all fit tightly; patch any holes or cracks in the walls and around windows and doors; seal the area surrounding utility entrance points; install insect grills in weep holes; and cut back any overhanging roof branches (essential for rats).
• Make sure the subfloor and roof void are free of any boxes or other storage to reduce potential bug hiding places. Trim back any growth in the garden beds next to the house.
